Red Cabbage

My grandmother and my mother are behind this dish. I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed this many times over.

It’s a family favorite that I’m very proud to share with all of you.
  • 1 medium head of red cabbage cored and sliced thin
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 small apples cored and sliced
  • 4 small bay leaves
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
In a Dutch oven, toss cabbage, onion, and apples. Add water, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-1/4 hours.
